· Make sure that you are not studying by yourself. Join a study group. Each person in the group will bring strength and different viewpoints. It is important to set rules for your study group. It is not a social event. It is important that everyone reviews prior to attending study group. Look at your course objectives.
· Make sure you understand each topic from the objectives. Many times members of a study group will divide the course objectives and share where in the text they found the answer to each objective. Your final will most likely contain questions that will test your understanding of these objectives. It is important to understand that the final is not about memorization of course content. The questions will test your comprehension of the course content, yet it will be in a format that tests your understanding by using t a scenario. The question will involve the nurse being asked how she will care for the patient, or what the responsibility of the nurse is, or what the best response is by the nurse.
· Take breaks about every 45 minutes to get up and stretch. You will do better in doing so. It is also important not to wait until the night before to cram for a final. Final review should start a week or two before the date.
· Waiting until the night before will create anxiety in the student. It is also very important to get to bed early the night before. Do not stay up all night. Also eat breakfast, feed your brain. Most important of all, is that you go in feeling confident. You have been preparing for this final for weeks. Go in with an attitude that “I am ready”.
