A great link to study for GI comes from this website: http://enotes.tripod.com/09.htm

Please do not use it as a substitute for your textbook, this site is for enhancement of what you have learned from your text. Keep it mind it has been created for Professionals, MD, RN level content. Enjoy......erwjac

Study groups are great ways to prepare for finals. As a group, the course objectives can be divided and researched by members of the group.
It is vital that when this objectives are researched the information must come from your Textbook (Not cut and pasted from the web). Your instructor uses the textbook for exam question content.
**Study tip- Make out drug cards for GI system drugs that you do not know. Go back to your pharmacology text book for more information.

Learning the terms in the book will assist the student when answering complex critical thinking questions on quizzes ,the final, and of course the NCLEX! It is also important when studying the G.I. system that all diagnostic tests are well understood.

For example in the patient is complaining of having difficulty swallowing, it is important to study about the diagnostic test Barium swallow. Learn about any pre test instructions and post test instructions as a nurse, one of your most important functions is teaching the patient about what to expect and how to prepare for testing.
Most patients do not understand the importance of the pre and post test instructions. Your client will feel reassured and maybe less anxious when they have enough information. You will feel a sense of accomplishment when your client reports that the testing went well.

The next step in learning this sytem is to review all the medications that are prescribed to treat Gastrointestinal disorders. Brush off your pharmacology book and review these drugs. You will find that a second look adds another layer and improves your confidence when you pass these medications while in clinical.
